The International Day of People with Disability was brightened by a visit from the players of “Neptūnas”
The players of Klaipėda, “Neptūnas” together with the students of “Medeinė” school participated in the International Day of People with Disability sports celebration and strewed a bunch of gifts to the intellectually disabled children - jerseys with “Neptūnas” symbols.
The players of “Neptūnas” were invited to this celebration by Eugenijus Milkontas, the former coach of “Neptūnas”, who is now the teacher of motion correction in “Medeinė” school. Simas Galdikas, Arnas Butkevičius, Mindaugas Girdžiūnas and Martynas Mažeika participated in the celebration and competed with the children in relay races.
“We always support the sporting youth. We are glad that you are actively moving and are interested in sports” – said M. Mažeika, the captain of the team “Neptūnas”.
“Neptūnas” is organizing various social events for two years now. They are inviting disable, orphanage and various other institution representatives to their games and training, participate in various celebrations, gifting basketballs, jerseys or other attributes of “Neptūnas” every time.
The players of “Neptūnas” contributed to the welfare of children undergoing treatment at the tuberculosis dispensary: they cheered the kids with a required sports inventory – basketballs and footballs, basketball board, jump ropes, various sand toys, and clothes.
In 2013 Klaipėda’s club representatives inspired optimism into a boy who had an oncological disease. The players of “Neptūnas” gave the boy branded team jersey, a basketball with the player’s signatures and a team photo with a wish to get well soon.
Also, earlier on the players of “Neptūnas” were collaborating and bringing gifts to the pupils of Klaipėda‘s orphanage homes. The players time and again were on the boat “Venus S” with the disabled people and sailed across the Curanian lagoon and shared their impressions about the experience of playing in the championship.
Last year the players of “Neptūnas” distributed around 1300 plush toys to the seaport city’s residences for infants with development delays, orphanages, and institutions of people with disabilities.
