“NEPTŪNAS” KLAIPEDA PLAYED TWO EXHIBITION GAMES

IN THE FIRST MATCH "NEPTŪNAS" DEFEATED THE VOLGOGRAD TEAM

Preparing for a new season, the "Neptūnas" team of Klaipėda played the first control match. Their opponents were the team of Volgograd, “Krasny Oktyabr " which shall play with Klaipedians in the same group in the European Cup competition. This combat was won by "Neptūnas" 67:64 (15:19, 16:13, 19:19, 17:13).

The game of the Russian team was based on Americans, even four of whom play the team has. This match was missed by the American, Daniel Ewing, the player of "Neptūnas" who is arriving next week, and Vytautas Šarakauskas who broke a finger of the right hand during training. Due to this injury, Vytautas will not be playing for about 6-7 weeks.

This match was very persistent, and the winner came out only during the last minute of the match. Crucial victorious points were collected in the “Neptūnas” team by a newcomer American player Jerai Grant. In the beginning he scored two points with a foul, and bursted the team 65:64. After inaccurate shot of Quinton Hosley fouls, J. Grant attacked again from the foul line, and consolidated the victory 67:64. The last onset of the opponents was inaccurate.

The points for "Neptūnas" were scored by: Martynas Mažeika 15 (foul shots 9/10), Jerai Grant 12 (two-points 4/4), Arvydas Šikšnius 11 (three-points 3/6), Simas Galdikas 8, Donatas Zavackas 7, Mindaugas Girdžiūnas 5, Arnas Butkevičius 4, Raidas Nacius 3, Gilvydas Biruta 2.

The highest-scoring players of "Krasny Oktyabr": D.J. Cooper 14, JaJuan Johnson and Richard Guinn – 13 points each, Quinton Hosley 10.

DURING THE SECOND EXHIBITION GAME “NEPTŪNAS” DEFEATED THE TEAM OF LIEPAJA

Preparing for upcoming European Cup competition, the "Neptūnas" team, Klaipėda played one more exhibition game. This time, the opponents were the winners of the fourth place of the Latvian championship, basketballers of Liepaja “Triobet” team.

Neptunites, leading the whole game, celebrated victory in the control match with the result 74:65 (23:18, 12:10, 18:17, 21:20).

The team led by Dainius Adomaitis, paying most attention to defense, left the opponents behind by 7-9 points, and during the fourth quarter, were already by 17 points ahead. Nevertheless, in the end of the match, Latvians had several long shots, and softened the result.

The highest-scoring players of “Neptūnas”: Mindaugas Girdžiūnas with 16 points (7 assists), Simas Galdikas (7 rebounds) and Martynas Mažeika - 13 points each, 11 (8 rebounds) - Jerai Grant, 10 - Donatas Zavackas, 5 - Gilvydas Biruta, 4 - Arnas Butkevičius, 2 - Laurynas Bieliauskas. Raidas Nacius and Arvydas Šikšnius scored no points, and Vytautas Šarakauskas, who broke a finger of the right hand during training last week, missed the match. Due to this injury, Vytautas will not be playing for about 6-7 weeks.

The players who distinguished themselves from the opponent side, were Krischoper Richards - 18 points and Stephen Zack - 12 points; Toms Leimanis and Janis Antrops scored 6 points each.

The match was closed in the Klaipėda sports and recreation center hall (10 S. Dariaus ir S. Girėno str.).
