“NEPTŪNAS“ - 3rd PLACE WINNER OF VLADAS GARASTAS CUP TOURNAMENT

Klaipėda, “Neptūnas” with a 45 point difference - 100:61 massacred the players of Ramūnas Butautas, the champions of Kazakhstan, “Astana” and won 3rd place in the Vladas Garastas Cup tournament, an honorary president of Lithuanian Basketball Federation (LKF) and a local basketball legend.

The players of “Neptūnas” started the match especially strong - 12:0 and after a few moments they were ahead by 21 points - 28:7.

After the third quarter the difference between the teams was 35 points - 80:35 and the rest of the match was just a formality.

“Neptūnas“ - “Astana” - 106: 61 (31:17, 26:15, 23:13, 26:16)

“Neptūnas“: Raidas Nacius - 25 (7/10 3-pointers, 7 rebounds), Gilvydas Biruta - 14 (11 rebounds) Travis Bader – 13, Arvydas Šikšnius, Mindaugas Girdžiūnas, Simas Galdikas, and Laurynas Beliauskas – 8 each, Martynas Mažeika - 7, and Jerai Grant - 6 pts.

„Astana“: Ignas Fiodorovas - 12, Arvydas Kacinas and Vitalij Lapčenko - 8 pts.

“Neptūnas“ clearly won the match for rebounds - 48:24.

Mindaugas Girdžiūnas, a player of “Neptūnas“ was awarded with an individual prize. He was recognized as an MVP of “Neptūnas” of this tournament.

We would like to remind you that the players of Klaipėda have seriously strained the nerves of Rimas Kurtinaitis and the players of Moscow Oblast, “Khimki”; however, at the end of the match they succumbed to their guests with a result of 80:81; and after a poorly played second match on Saturday they had to acknowledge the advantage of Vilnius, “Lietuvos rytas” with a result of 56:73. The players of Vilnius became the champions of this tournament by overcoming the team “Khimki” with a minimal advantage of 85:84.

“Švyturio Arena“ has been organizing this tournament four years in a row now. We would like to remind you that the team “Khimki” was the winner of Vladas Garastas Cup tournament last year. This time they were dethroned. Team “Khimki” has lots of ambitions in the upcoming Euroleague season; they are even talking about the semi-final matches. The players of Ramūnas Butautas, the champions of Kazakhstan, “Astana” in the upcoming season are going to compete in FIBA Europe Cup and the VTB United League tournament matches; the players of “Neptūnas” and “Lietuvos rytas” – Eurocup tournament and the Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) championships.

The team Klaipėda “Neptūnas“ are going to play their first official seasonal match of 2015-2016 Lithuanian Basketball League (LKL) against the players of Kėdainiai “Nevėžis” on September 30th, 19:00 in “Švyturio Arena“.
